On our well-stocked dam, a mere cast from the deck; or
On nearby waters, both dam and river – prior arrangement required.
Trout Fishing Policy
Did you know we now encourage ‘catch and cook’!? Which means you can now enjoy the catch as well as a tasty trout!
Read the rules
- We have done away with the “catch & release” system, as many of the fish die after being released and it costs a fortune to re-stock.
- We would appreciate it if you would rather buy the fish that is caught from us at R150/kg.
- With this system we can constantly stock the pond with healthy fish, and you then have the pleasure of “catch & cook”.
- We request then that you keep the first two (2) fish that you catch and only release those that are caught after the first two. You are welcome to keep more fish if you want, also at R150/kg.
- Please also ensure that the correct net is used when handling the fish.
- Nets that are not made from the proper canvas material must not be used for Trout.
- We have nets at Reception for you to use if yours are not the correct type. Please enquire from management if you are unsure of your net.
- Only the correct Fly-fishing equipment is to be used at any time.
- We have the correct rods, reels, flies, and equipment for rent to guests who did not bring their own.
- We ask for honesty from all anglers to ensure that the pond will be enjoyed by all who want to Fly-fish.
- Management at Reception has a scale available for weighing purposes.

Enjoy a leisurely walk through the Nature Park from an easy saunter to something more challenging.

Enjoy a chilly dip the in crisp, clear mountain streams on your way!
MOUNTAIN BIKING
Challenging trails in the surrounding area for the off road enthusiast with picturesque mountain scenery.
Bring your own bike and protective gear.
BIRDING & WILDLIFE
Many species of birds occur in and around the garden area as well as throughout the Nature Park.We have bird check lists available for the avid bird watchers. We also have bird books available at reception for your perusal during your stay.
On your walks in the reserve you may see the lammergeyer (bearded vulture), cape vulture, long crested eagle, forest buzzard, bush blackcap, Gurney’s sugarbird, ground woodpecker and buff streaked chat. Down in the wetlands look out for the 3 crane species- crowned, blue and wattle cranes, as well as the spoonbill and a diversity of water birds.
National Heritage Nature Park is set on 200 hectares of “never-been-cultivated” Highveld grass and forms part of a 2000 hectare nature reserve. The area is home to numerous indigenous wildlife species – you may encounter zebra, wildebeest, blesbok, eland, oribi, common reedbuck, black backed jackal, serval, gennet and baboon.

The Midlands Meander is a totally absorbing outing with many arts and crafts, restaurants and shops.
Nottingham Road village is only 1 hour away.
Kamberg or Giants Castle rock art. With 3000 images in the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park it is considered to be one of the richest rock art areas in the world.
