Many species of birds occur in and around the garden area as well as throughout the Nature Park.We have bird check lists available for the avid bird watchers. We also have bird books available at reception for your perusal during your stay.
On your walks in the reserve you may see the lammergeyer (bearded vulture), cape vulture, long crested eagle, forest buzzard, bush blackcap, Gurney’s sugarbird, ground woodpecker and buff streaked chat. Down in the wetlands look out for the 3 crane species- crowned, blue and wattle cranes, as well as the spoonbill and a diversity of water birds.
National Heritage Nature Park is set on 200 hectares of “never-been-cultivated” Highveld grass and forms part of a 2000 hectare nature reserve. The area is home to numerous indigenous wildlife species – you may encounter zebra, wildebeest, blesbok, eland, oribi, common reedbuck, black backed jackal, serval, gennet and baboon.
